High Falls Gorge

During spring flooding and flooding caused by Hurricane Irene in 2011, a section of the walkways and other structures at High Falls Gorge were severely damaged or destroyed.  North Woods Engineering was contracted to provide design, contractor selection, and construction services for replacement of the damaged and destroyed structures.

North Woods Engineering designed the new walkway system to be a steel cantilevered walkway that utilizes rock bolts for support along the gorge face as well as cables to support the overall span.  Additionally, two viewing platforms with clear glass floors were designed to enhance visitors’ experiences, allowing them to view the river beneath their feet.

North Woods Engineering has also completed multiple other projects at High Falls Gorge including annual walkway inspection and replacement septic system design.
