North Woods Engineering’s site and civil engineering services include the design and analysis of the infrastructure and utilities that make our Adirondack communities thrive. Our site development and design philosophy is rooted in a respect for the environment while balancing the needs and goals of our clients. Our staff takes pride in providing sound technical solutions, that are well communicated, and meet the needs of our clients.
Our office is located 5 miles from the Adirondack Park Agency’s and the Department of Environmental Conservation Region 5 headquarters in Ray Brook. We are well versed in the seemingly complex rules, regulations and permitting process that the DEC and APA requires. We routinely work on projects that require permits from these state agencies and have a solid working relationship with many of permit administrators and review staff.

Site Engineering Projects

This project involved the planning, design, and permitting for a new retail building on a seven acre site in the hamlet of Ray Brook, Town of North Elba, New York.

North Woods Engineering completed site development and environmental permitting for a new 3.5 megawatt solar development on a capped landfill in Malone, New York.

The construction of a this LEED certified conference center was crucial to the continued success of the Olympic Region in upstate New York. The highly visible Conference Center is now a prominent feature along Main Street in Lake Placid, New York.

This multi-phase improvement project is for upgrades to different portions of a children’s camp sewer system in the Town of Santa Clara, NY, permitted at 30,000 gallons a day.

The project involved the replacement of a deteriorated and damaged retaining wall along the Saranac River behind the Town of Harrietstown’s historic Town Hall in Saranac Lake.

North Woods Engineering was retained by the Village of Saranac Lake to complete the design of comprehensive improvements for five prominent village streets.

North Woods Engineering worked closely with the Friends of Dewey Mountain to design a new base lodge for the Dewey Mountain Recreational Center.

North Woods Engineering worked closely with the USOC and USA Bobsled to develop a new bobseld push track at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, New York.

This project involved renovations and additions to the Ski Jumps Lodge at the Olympic Jumping Complex in Lake Placid, New York.

North Woods Engineering has enjoyed a long-term working relationship with the Adirondack Museum/Experience in Blue Mountain Lake, New York.

North Woods Engineering designed the new walkway system to be a steel cantilevered walkway that utilizes rock bolts for support along the gorge face as well as cables to support the overall span.

This project involved planning, design, permitting, and construction phase services for the renovation of a historic six story hotel, long considered the anchor of downtown Saranac Lake, New York.
