Olympic Jumping Complex Outrun Reconstruction
Olympic Jumping Complex Outrun Reconstruction
Clients: Olympic Reg. Dev. Authority Project
Location: Lake Placid, NY
Construction Cost: $10,500,000
Funding Source: Public
This project involved planning, design, bidding, and construction phase services for reconstruction of the HS128 and HS100 ski jump outruns at the Olympic Jumping Complex in Lake Placid, New York.
North Woods was charged with being the lead consultant, responsible to coordinate efforts of other consultants, as well as to design a ski jumper “bridge” , a vertical curved steel and precast concrete elevated structure clear spanning an existing building at the base of the HS128 jump, to a location where the structure could transition to the outrun slab-on-grade, dropping in elevation 53 feet over its 156-foot length.
The work required strict tolerance to finish grades to ensure compliance with international standards, thereby allowing the jumps to be used at high- level international competitions, such as the 2023 World University Games.
North Woods provided services during the bidding phase and provided construction administration services as requested by ORDA.
The project was a 2022 Award of Merit winner in the category of Renovation/Restoration from the Engineering News Record.
